March - excitement and arrivals...

The American Wigeon first found on the 15th Feb was present for most of March usually feeding off Patch at low tide or from the Coronation Drive railings. It was last seen on the 20th March.

28th Feb,  4 Stonechat around Mallard hide, 3 Chiffchaff near river view point and 3 Sand Martins over Marshes. The Cattle Egret was with ponies in fields opposite Parc Teifi Industrial Park with 4 Little Egrets, and present into March, last seen on the 23rd.

1st March,  a singing Blackcap heralded in St David's Day...

4th March, a Wheatear was in fields beyond Cliff Hotel and a Swallow over the river through the Teifi Marshes. The previous evening there were 23 Sand Martins.

10th March, 50+ Sand Martins passed through the Marshes (Jon Green ) 

A good  - " almost daylight" sighting on the 11th of a Barn Owl hunting over Mallard and Creek at 18.15.

20th March, a drake Mandarin  on  Kingfisher pond (Cliff Benson) and on the 21st an Osprey flew north over Gwbert Road, Cardigan at 8am (Malcolm Price)

23rd March
A White Stork was reported near Verwig. It was first seen on the 19th near Penparc and over Mwnt. It has a yellow inscribed ring (CVO3). It is part of the Cove Valley, Devon reintroduction scheme. A male bird released last year. It was seen in Northamptonshire in August and South Pembs in September. Thanks to Mark Waldron for photos that showed the ring details..

24th March, a Great Egret was at the river viewpoint (Tuesday work party)

The first House Martin was over Mallard pond on the 29th and the first Willow Warblers on the 31st brings March to a close...
